Welcome to the official website of Jade Swim4Life!
Jade Scognamillo here, the proud entrepreneur of Jade Swim4Life. I am passionate about swimming, strengthening athletic confidence, fitness and sharing my skills and experiences with others.
About Coach Jade
In 2005 my parents decided to move our family to Canada to pursue new opportunities. I aspired to complete a Great Lake Crossing to raise money for a Sick Kids Hospital and we had an overwhelming amount of support from our new community. Our team raised $54,000 for Sick Kids Hospital and $5,000 for our local Headwaters Hospital. I ramped up my training for two years and was able to hold up my end of the deal.
I successfully completed the 19.2km marathon swim across Lake Erie, becoming the youngest and fastest crosser. The following year I completed the 60km marathon swim across Lake Ontario to become the youngest swimmer to do so.
I had the honour of being granted early Canadian Citizenship during this time so my records would be Canadian. During this time I had the opportunity to present motivational speeches to schools and athletic clubs along with youth and adult programs. I learnt an incredible amount about open water swimming, endurance, training habits, fitness and motivation which I now share with my athletes.
Now, in my early 20s, I have gained over six years of private coaching experience and spent two seasons teaching competitive club swimming. Personally, I have spent over 13 years training as a competitive and open water athlete. I have had a life long love for competitive and open water swimming and hope to share what I have learnt from my personal endeavours, challenges and accomplishments with current aspiring athletes.
Jade Swim4Life was founded in 2013 when I received a grant from Summer Company to start my own small business. As a young entrepreneur I learnt the ropes of business management and began offering my coaching services during the summer months when I was not in University.
During this time I was affiliated with the Life Saving Society and coached athletes of all ages and abilities. I wanted to combine my passion for swimming with helping others so I decided to develop a unique training program to help athletes improve their technique or develop basic water safety skills.
I was part of the varsity student-athlete swimming team at Wilfrid Laurier University for four years where I also completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and a Minor in Communication Studies. I worked part time for the University as a lifeguard and private swimming instructor while volunteering as a journalist for the swim team.
After ‘retiring’ as a competitive swimmer I found the transition into coaching the natural progressions and I wanted to create a unique program. What makes Jade Swim4Life special is the unique experiences I am able to share. I truly enjoy sharing my story in the hopes of inspiring others to pursue their goals.
